Guinness World Record

Description

As a secondary school student, I worked on a team of six to develop and run our own school bank in partnership with AIB Ireland as part of their ”Build A Bank” competition. Through this initiative, I worked as Digital Officer with the team to operate our own AIB student branch, organise weekly opening times, develop an Android app and organise various community events and charity fundraisers.

One such event that I helped organise was a Guinness World Record attempt for the World’s Largest Human Currency Symbol. This ambitious feat organised by our team required a lot of planning, correspondence with school staff and the Guinness World Record’s team, sourcing of recording equipment, sponsorship from local businesses and conversations around safety precautions. We also partnered with Unicef Ireland to make the event an official fundraiser.

The event was a great success and a lot of fun for everyone involved, with several hundred community members participating! The news was shared throughout local newspapers and we were even invited to local radio stations to share our story.

The team and I later progressed to the National Final of the AIB Ireland “Build A Bank” competition hosted in the RDS, Dublin. Although we didn't win the grand prize on the day, we had fun presenting our broad portfolio of community-building work in front of panel of acclaimed judges and were ranked as one of Ireland's Top 6 Student Banks.
